Academic Presentation on Silicone Hydrogels at BCLA 2009
A comparative study citing the oxygen permeability of high water content silicone hydrogel and convention hydrogel lenses was given in poster format, at the recent British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Exhibition and Conference in late May 2009.
The presentation was made by Richard Young PhD and Tristan T. Tapper PhD of Contamac Limited’s Research and Development Department, together with David Austin, Senior Lecturer and Sheila Rae PhD of the Vision and Eye Research Unit, Postgraduate Medical Institute of Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge UK. The study focused on the level of oxygen permeability of Contamac’s Definitive™ silicone hydrogel material as compared with several conventional hydrogels. The results concluded that the Dk of the 74% silicone hydrogel product was 60 barrers, being 33% higher than an equivalent conventional hydrogel.
The poster is available on our website with kind permission of the BCLA.
